Puerto Rico Slugateers Vacation, What a place it is!
49Recently I went to Puerto Rico for a vacation. Well it was much more than a vacation, more like a sabbatical, little work, and looking for a job so I could maybe move there. My buddy Frank has an old Air Force comrade that lives there and we stayed with him in a little guest hose attached to his shop.
Well let me tell you Puerto Rico is a wonderful place. We were always welcome with open arms and lots of food. Oh my god the food there is outstanding. They put garlic in everything and pork and chicken is the biggest meat source there.
They have cattle farms scattered through the vast mountains that cover the island but never saw a steak. We stayed in the country and away from the cities for the most part for the entire month. Oh ya, we stayed a month. That left plenty of time to see things but I never got to the north part of the island. We generally stayed on near San Sebastian, Aguadilla, Rincon, La Pagueras and Isabella. Kind of hangout and we never got to see all that was around there, not even close.
I suggest staying in Rincon or San Juan if it is your first time to Puerto Rico. San Juan is a big city and attractive to the younger crowd for partying. We spent one night there and it was cool but felt out of place as we are 50 and liked our shorts and flip flops. San Juan likes to dress up and has a lot of tourist and is more expensive, $4.50 for a beer and 15 buck for average dinner, US dollars which they use.
Rincon on the other hand is less expensive for food and drinks, $ 1.50 to 2.00 for a beer and you can eat for $4-5 bucks. Not at a sit down but out of doors at a table or roadside stand, I liked it and it was great food. The locals go there to surf also and so do the US surfers. A $140.00 round trip airfare and the kids sleep in little hostels, not very nice but a bed.
If you’re like us you are more comfortable in the condo or B&B that are abundant. Below is my blog link I did while I was there and have to do some more on. Write if you have questions, best to comment and I will answer that way. Have fun!
